MailMarshal SMTP

MailMarshal SMTP is an enterprise-level email content security and control product. Content Security is about monitoring and controlling the electronic data entering or leaving an organization. MailMarshal provides server-based solutions to the key issues in this area.

MailMarshal SMTP is designed to screen out email threats such as viruses and spam, while providing a checkpoint for confidential data, defamation, profanity or other forms of email misuse that may potentially harm business reputation.

Conceptual Overview

MailMarshal SMTP provides email content filtering. Logically, it behaves as a gateway between an organization and the Internet. It can be configured to enforce your corporate Acceptable Use Policy.
MailMarshal controls the type of email content (including attachments) that can be sent and received.
MailMarshal can be configured to block traffic to or from any Internet site.

MailMarshal can control the movement of commercially sensitive data, give legal liability protection, block junk mail, eliminate inappropriate use, and enable virus scanning, message logging and management reporting.
All features can be applied on a per-user basis.

MailMarshal SMTP is server-based and runs on Windows NT or Windows 2000 Server.

Already have a firewall? MailMarshal complements the function of traditional "firewall" products. Traditional firewalls are often likened to the Immigration service at an international airport. They monitor and control who has access. MailMarshal is like the Customs and security screening services. It monitors and controls what data are allowed to enter or leave.

As this analogy makes clear, MailMarshal SMTP fills an important gap in traditional network security models. Without Customs, contraband and dangerous goods would travel freely. Similarly, studies have shown that most corporate data leaks (both intentional and inadvertent) are through employees who have free access to the data in question. As for incoming email-borne viruses, they may be addressed to anyone without their consent. MailMarshal is designed to reduce these security risks dramatically.
