WebMarshal

WebMarshal is a Web access control and monitoring application that enables businesses to establish and enforce Web usage policy. WebMarshal eliminates unproductive browsing by directing users to approved sites, while blocking offensive and unproductive sites. Detailed reporting by user and site allows management to refine Web policy so that the business can better take advantage of the Web. WebMarshal gives an organization easy, practical and customized control of Web browsing.

Now available, WebMarshal version 2.2 uses Marshal Software's TextCensor technology to categorize web sites according to an organization's policies. WebMarshal's intelligent site list creation decreases total cost of ownership by reducing administrative overhead and eliminating the need for blacklist subscriptions.

WebMarshal features:

  • Standalone Proxy Server for HTTP, HTTPS and FTP (non-caching).
  • Supports Web Filter plugin installation on Microsoft ISA Server, and chaining to other proxy servers.
  • Allows virus scanning of file downloads and uploads.
  • Site Rules allow browsing control by URL, user, and time of day.
  • Content Rules allow browsing control by file type, size, and virus scanner results.
  • TextCensor Rules allow automated local updating of site blacklists and whitelists (URL Categories).
  • Upload Rules provide control of file uploads by site, content and TextCensor criteria.
  • Uses Marshal's TextCensor lexical analysis technology to categorize pages.
  • Allows stripping of "cookies"
  • Administrators can monitor pages requested by users in real time.
  • Provides Windows NT Performance Counters.
  • All requests are logged and a wide variety of reports can be generated

Conceptual Overview

WebMarshal allows your people to harness the power of Internet without management needing to worry about what they access or how much time they spend. They can only access information sources which meet organizational policy.

WebMarshal operates on the principle of locally updated blacklists and whitelists of approved websites. WebMarshal 2.x TextCensor rules can generate URL lists automatically on the fly, using Marshal Software's TextCensor lexical analysis technology.

WebMarshal eliminates the subscription costs, false blocking, and tardy updating which are typical of third-party blacklists.

WebMarshal allows flexibility in determining which employees will have what level of web access. Site Rules are created to specify access to web resources based on user, URL, and time of day. Content Rules allow control based on file size, type, and virus scanning. Cookies may also be stripped from responses. Upload Rules provide control of file uploads by site, content and TextCensor criteria.

WebMarshal provides the adminstrator with a real-time view of browsing activity by session and URL. Windows NT performance counters and email notifications are also available.

WebMarshal logs all web requests, whether successful or rejected. From these logs, a comprehensive range of reports and graphs can be generated - by user, by site, by bandwidth, by browsing time, etc. These reports will be useful for setting company policy or even for internal charging purposes.
